Our Services
Diplomatic Relations
The Office for Foreign Affairs is responsible for establishing and maintaining diplomatic relations with countries worldwide. We currently maintain diplomatic relations with over 100 nations and work closely with our neighbors Switzerland and Austria on matters of regional importance.
Our diplomatic missions abroad represent Liechtenstein's interests and provide crucial links between our principality and the international community. Through strategic diplomatic engagement, we strengthen Liechtenstein's position on the global stage.
International Cooperation
Liechtenstein actively participates in numerous international organizations, including the United Nations, the European Free Trade Association (EFTA), the European Economic Area (EEA), and the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE).
Our Ministry negotiates international agreements and treaties that protect Liechtenstein's sovereignty while fostering mutually beneficial relationships with our global partners. We believe that multilateral cooperation is essential for addressing shared global challenges.
Consular Services
The Consular Department provides essential services to Liechtenstein citizens traveling or living abroad. Our consular support includes emergency assistance, document issuance, and coordination with foreign authorities when citizens require assistance overseas.
We work diligently to ensure that Liechtenstein nationals have access to necessary support wherever they are in the world, maintaining a 24/7 emergency contact service for citizens in distress abroad.
European Affairs
Despite not being a member of the European Union, Liechtenstein maintains close ties with Europe through the European Economic Area (EEA) agreement, which gives our country access to the EU's internal market.
Our European Affairs Department monitors developments within European institutions, analyzes their impact on Liechtenstein, and ensures our interests are represented in European policy discussions. We coordinate closely with our mission in Brussels to maintain effective engagement with EU institutions.
International Law
Liechtenstein has a strong tradition of supporting international law and the peaceful resolution of disputes. Our legal experts contribute to the development of international legal frameworks and ensure Liechtenstein's compliance with international obligations.
The Ministry actively promotes international humanitarian law, human rights law, and international criminal justice. Liechtenstein was instrumental in the creation of the International Criminal Court and continues to support its mission.
Public Diplomacy
Our Public Diplomacy unit works to promote awareness and understanding of Liechtenstein's values, culture, and positions on international issues. We engage with foreign media, organize cultural events, and maintain digital platforms to share information about our principality.
Through strategic communication efforts, we enhance Liechtenstein's visibility and influence beyond what might be expected of a country of our size, ensuring our voice is heard in important global discussions.
